Public PLN – Balancing PLN, Media Literacy, & Public Discourse

Through this week’s study on the topic of Public PLN, I have developed new ideas about the learning and development of PLN.

Social media can bring many different influences to public figures, and there are risks and benefits associated with these influences. The risk that social media brings to public figures is that public figures need to be more aware of their actions and behaviors, especially in public. They need to have basic literacy to be able to set up the right persona to attract more followers. For example, educators need to teach in the right way, not only to manage students’ studies but also to take into account their behavior, otherwise, their reputation will deteriorate. Similarly, a lawyer needs to be able to do what it takes to win a case for his or her advocate. However, at the same time, the lawyer who defends the wrong side may receive scorn or cyber violence. However, it should be noted that this is his job and there may not be any good or evil in their eyes.

I think I don’t have what I consider negative replies as well as comments in my blog because I think everyone has their ideas and we need to respect others. However, I do delete comments that are too negative or even abusive if they appear in my comment section. I think that with the development of online platforms, the inconsistency in the comments people make, and the differences in the information they receive, many people feel that media literacy is getting progressively worse. The open dialogue of information is open to all groups, so sometimes the openness of some information does not satisfy everyone. Therefore, those who think that the information does not match their ideas will combine the difference in information with media literacy, and the comment that media voices are not literate will be created. In the end, if each of us valued media literacy, PLN learning would become easier and more comfortable.

This is my learning and insight for this session content, if you have the same idea or different ideas then welcome to leave a comment to discuss together.
